Your safety continues to be our priority, which is why we established COVID-19 guidelines for the event. Plan your trip early and reserve tickets now, as each special event will have limited capacity due to physical distance guidelines. 


Dr. William R. Proffit Resident Scholar Award

An opportunity for graduate orthodontic students and residents to present clinical research and basic science research at Annual Session.

Hellman, Sicher, Graber Awards

These research awards are given to research papers of unusual merit related to orthodontics.

Humanitarian Award

Established in 2011, the Humanitarian Award recognizes significant contributions to improve the quality of human life that extends beyond the usual scope of organized dentistry.

James E. Brophy Distinguished Service Award

The award is presented to those who have made contributions to orthodontics in addition to other valuable and devoted services to the Association and to its membership

Lifetime Achievement Award

The AAO Lifetime Achievement Award in Orthodontic Research recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the science related to the specialty of orthodontics over the course of the recipient’s lifetime.

Outstanding Contribution Award by a Non-Orthodontist

Recognizes a non-orthodontist for the outstanding service to the specialty of orthodontics.

Ortho Innovator Award

Introduced in 2018, the Ortho Innovator Award recognizes ideas that could revolutionize orthodontic treatment or practice management.

Memorial Lectures

Opening Party featuring Relapse

Kick-off your Annual Session experience at the AAO Opening Party. Enjoy food, drinks, activities and entertainment, on the Lawn just outside the Convention Center on Friday, June 25th.

AAO Celebration

You won’t want to miss this final evening of networking with your peers in Boston at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Enjoy delicious food and drinks at this beautiful venue on the water, Saturday, June 26. Tickets available for purchase through registration.

Excellence in Orthodontics Awards Luncheon

Celebrate those who have made outstanding contributions to the world of orthodontics at this annual event, scheduled for Saturday, June 26 at the Westin Boston Waterfront.  Keynote speaker: Mitch Albom.  Learn more about the awards being presented.

AAO’s exclusive resident party at Boston’s premier social gaming venue, Kings Bowl. This event is open to AAO Residents and offers great food, cold drinks and unparalleled networking opportunities.

Opening Party with RELAPSE at The Lawn on D!

The world of orthodontics meets the history of Boston. Kick-off your Annual Session experience at the AAO Opening Party featuring Relapse, a band by orthodontists, for orthodontists. Enjoy food, drinks, activities and entertainment at the Lawn on D, right outside the convention center, on Friday June 25.

Continue the fun at the AAO Celebration at the Institute of Contemporary Art on Saturday, June 26.
